Monotypes are a printmaking technique that produces a single, unique image by transferring paint or printmaking ink from a smooth surface onto paper. This process creates an impression and offers endless expressive possibilities. I create monotypes using two methods: without a press, using Gelli plates, and traditionally, with a press. This process allows me to “see what happens” more than in any other medium I use. You must surrender to the process; intuition and technique guide the imagery. By being open to the unexpected, you can make fascinating discoveries.
